2025 Great Strides Scholarship Winners

June 9, 2025 By Bucky Roadrunner

The Bucks County Roadrunners have announced the three winners of the 2025 Great Strides Scholarship: Alexander Antonucci from Central Bucks East High School, Maeve Boyes from Council Rock South High School, and Andreas Quattrocchi from Bristol High School. Each winner received a $2,500 award from the club. These scholarships recognize both a dedication to running and the ability to use skills developed through running to take on challenges in academics, the community, and future careers.

We want to thank all the students who applied for the BCRR Great Strides Scholarship. It was wonderful to learn how impactful running has been for so many young athletes and wish them all the best in their future endeavors. A big thanks also goes out to the members of our selection committee for donating their time and effort in reviewing nearly 200 pages of submissions, a record number, and helping us make thoughtful selections during a competitive process.

Alexander Antonucci demonstrated leadership early in his high school running career, taking on the challenge of recruiting new team members and bringing in over ten athletes. His coach says “it was truly remarkable what he did, and our distance program would not be what it is today without him.” Alexander improved consistently throughout his running career and applied that same work ethic to an impressive course load (12 Advanced Placement classes) and extracurricular commitments, including a recent community-wide green space enhancement initiative. He will attend the University of Notre Dame, where he plans to major in chemical engineering and pursue a career in sustainability.

Maeve Boyes began running in fourth grade after changing schools. By high school, she felt a “hydraulic pressure” to run faster and succeed in competition. This pressure negatively impacted her mental health and relationship with the sport. A combination of the COVID pandemic and an injury forced her to pause competitive running and reset her relationship with it. During that time, she became involved with her school’s special education students, helping one athlete participate in track and the Special Olympics. She continued to attend her team’s practices and events to emotionally support her teammates. When she was able to run again, her passion was renewed. Her coach calls her “without a doubt … one of the hardest-working athletes that I’ve had the privilege of coaching.” Maeve will attend Millersville University and run on their team.

Andreas Quattrocchi has been a participant in the BCRR Winter Series since ninth grade and has used running as a way to grow socially and personally. In his essay, he described how summer camps at RunningWorks helped him develop confidence in running and in life. This confidence carried over into the classroom, extracurricular activities, the track, and his role as team captain. One of his teachers captured the connection: “Academically, Andrew is strength and endurance. He excels in every academic content area.” He plans to pursue a career in medicine and will attend the University of Pittsburgh.

The BCRR Great Strides Scholarship supports students like Alexander, Maeve, and Andreas who embody the spirit of running both on and off the track. The scholarship honors their ability to apply lessons from running – such as discipline, leadership, and perseverance – to overcome challenges and make meaningful contributions to their communities and future careers. We wish these outstanding student-athletes the best as they embark on their college journeys.
